For several decades now, our society has been over-possessed with the prescription drugs; it has been seen as the best alternative available. This is however changing quickly, in the last few years, the health professionals through their research and publications have been able to convince the society that there are natural alternatives to prescription drugs that offer patients far much better results.

Through the several media like the internet, television, and journal publications, the level of information penetration of the general information has been quite immense, and this has been the key to convincing the general public on the need to reconsider the natural alternatives, the solutions that have always been the for as long as man's history of existence can be traced.

Generally, the laboratory inspired medicines have a chemical makeup that is not natural to that of our genetic makeup. In most cases, therefore, it fails to address the root cause of the ailment. Take the pain suppressants for instance, they target to stop the pain without necessarily curing its cause, as such, one gets a moment of relief only for things to worsen later, unless the root cause cured naturally.

Other than the side effects, the other concerns that have been raised include the tendency of a drug becoming ineffective due to over-reliance. When the system gets used to the drug, it longer responds to it. In addition to this, the disease causing microorganisms such as the bacteria, virus, and other forms of pathogens become deadly when the existing drugs can no longer fight them successfully. This is caused by the tendency of pathogens to change their genetic makeup to become resistant to the drugs.

The proponents of the natural remedies have given various reasons why there is a need to consider the solutions that are friendlier to our system chemical makeup. Take the example of pain, for instance, in order to deal with pain, the prescribed medications tend to suppress the feeling itself, and do nothing at dealing with the root cause of the pain itself. In this way, one gets the illusion that the cause has been treated when in actual sense, the cause is present and may cure naturally or may worsen depending on the condition.

The proponents of natural alternatives seem to be getting increased popularity, particularly given the rising cases of cancer, heart diseases, diabetes and other life threatening diseases. Most of these ailments are preventable and manageable by simply adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Back pain, for instance, can be treated with just four chiropractic treatment sessions, and there is overwhelming scientific evidence to support this. The best and least costly method to lower the bad cholesterol in the body for instance is to focus on a diet rich in elements that suppress inflammations. Garlic, oats, olive oil and even red wine for instance, are just a few examples.

Generally though, there is no clear winner in a debate of which one is better between the natural remedies and the prescribed medicines. In order to make the right decision, your doctor has to take you through each of the alternatives, and help you determine what works best for you on the circumstance.
