Meditation has long been upheld as a pillar of physical and mental health by eastern medicine and traditions. Western medicine and scientific theories have previously scoffed at the old adage, "Mind over matter." Soy products like soy milk, tofu, and edamame are a hearty source of protein and a great alternative to red meat and homogenized cow's milk. For some, these products are an acquired taste and learning to cook with and enjoy consuming them can take some practice, but implementing them in your diet will begin to display significant results as you attempt to lose weight.

This is the area where things get really exciting and very yummy. The list of beneficial fruits and veggies is a long one. Incorporating tropical fruits like papaya and pomegranate along with more traditional options like apples, bananas, oranges, and peaches, is a great way to add incredible amounts of sweet, yummy flavor to your diet. Other fruits you should consider are kiwi, cantaloupe, berries, and apricots.

Stress leads to high-blood pressure and a host of other negative health conditions from heart problems to respiratory ailments and weight gain. Meditation reduces and in some circumstances can eliminate or reverse the negative effects of stress on your body. Your body is controlled by your mind and meditation improves the functionality of your heart, immune system, and can reduce symptoms of arthritis, psoriasis, irritable bowel syndrome, heart disease, and other ailments.

Interestingly, meditation also increases some other interesting results. It has been shown to positively affect the areas of the brain that handle self-esteem, social interaction, and creativity. By meditating, we allow our minds to work more efficiently which gives us greater clarity as we examine our own behavior and the behavior of others. We develop an increased ability to examine how a given situation may affect us and then make decisions based on careful consideration instead of base reaction.
