According to a British study , effervescent medicines sometimes contain large amounts of sodium chloride. That salt . According to the authors , these treatments should be prescribed with greater extent in hypertensive patients. But not only .
Sodium chloride is actually added to the effervescent forms to promote better absorption by the body. But for many years, multiple studies have shown the devastating effects of excessive salt consumption. Including the cardiovascular system .
The team of Dr. Jacob George Dunde University , Scotland, followed more than 1.2 million patients in the UK for more than seven years. Its objective was to compare their cardiovascular health based on prescription drugs with or without salt.
Results, patients under treatment called effervescent saw their risk of myocardial infarction and stroke (CVA) increased by 16 % compared to the others. And this taking into account risk factors such as weight, smoking, and medical history. Their worst mortality rate was 28% higher ! And of course the incidence of hypertension was significantly higher in this group.
The authors insist that patients are adequately informed of the levels of sodium chloride of these drugs. They also stressed that " the requirements of this type of treatment should be carried out with greater caution." Especially in hypertensive patients .
