When the hot summer days set in, the first escape most think of is the water. When there are a lot of young people to cater too, try playing creative pool party games for kids.

Kids and water are as a classic summer combination as ice cream and cake. From their early days in the tub, most children come to love splashing around and swimming. Creating periods of organized play when tending to a good sized group of young people can help keep them focused, entertained and playing peacefully together.

Being a classic does not mean that it stops being exciting. One game most people can remember playing as children is the tag game called Marco Polo. The one who is IT closes their eyes and calls out "Marco!" to which the other players respond with "Polo!" and IT uses their voices to try and pinpoint their locations in order to catch someone to take their place in the center.

An even more thrilling water game that is actually better suited for older children and teens is chicken fighting. It requires everyone to split off into pairs with one person sitting on the shoulders of their partner. At the starting signal those on top try to pull each other off the bottoms and the last team standing takes the victory.

Creating a whirlpool is great game team effort game to play in rounded pools with a constant depth level for the best results. Everyone makes a single file line and follows the leader around the circumference, gaining speed with each new lap. Going as fast as they can, the group will build up enough momentum to get the water spinning on it's own, at which point they can all simply hit the floating position and ride the wave, so to speak.

Water jousting is an energetic competition that requires balance and dexterity and can be played as teams or individual elimination rounds. Players use rafts as their virtual horses and pool noodles as their lances. They meet in the center and attempt to knock each other off of their seats with a goal to be the last one still riding and take away a victory.

Relay races can be a lot of fun with various floating devices such as rafts, donuts and inner tubes. All the children should form two teams, half of each going to opposite poolsides. The starters mount the floats and paddle as quickly as possible to their teammate waiting on the other end, they tag out and the seconds make their way back across to the third, continuing the passes until every member of one group has made it for the win.

Keeping the young folks occupied during the hot summer days is a lot easier than it may seem. Invite some friends or family over and enjoy all the great pool party games for kids. There are all the time tested favorites but new adventures may be created simply by using a few toys and a bit of creative thinking.
